MOSY publishes Sports Roadmap in English

Erbil, Kurdistan – Iraq (KRG.org) – The Ministry of Sports and Youth (MOSY) has today published its Sports Roadmap in English, which sets out the Kurdistan Regional Government’s policies for promoting and developing sport in the Region.
The Sports Roadmap, which was officially adopted by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in January 2009, was devised after several consultations and conferences.
Mr Taha Barwary, Minister of Sports and Youth, said, “We consulted many stakeholders and several international experts before completing the sports roadmap. We wanted to ensure that they shared their views.

On the 21st January 2009 the Kurdistan Regional Government enacted as part of the KRGs programs two roadmaps prepared by the Ministry of Sports and Youth. The roadmaps set the framework for the policy-making of youth and sport issues in the Kurdistan Region.

President Barzani opens Iraq's first post-war International Sports Conference

Erbil, Kurdistan – Iraq (KRG.org) - Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani yesterday opened Iraq’s first post-war international sports conference hosted in Erbil, stating how important the role of sport is to bring people together, create an environment of friendship and build a strong healthy region.

I want to offer my warmest welcome to all of you who have joined us in Erbil today for the second international sports conference hosted by the Kurdistan Regional Government.

I want to offer my thanks to President Barzani for lending his support to today’s event – the KRG’s policy of promoting sport for all, and using sport to help develop our younger generations, is just one way in which audiences at home and abroad are able to see what can be achieved in a modern, peaceful and progressive Iraq.

KRG Sports and Youth Minister and Welsh Minister cement ties following conference

Cardiff, Wales – UK (KRG.org) – The Kurdistan Region’s Minister of Sports and Youth yesterday met the Welsh Assembly Government’s Heritage Minister at the end of a two-day sports conference in Wales.

Minister Taha Barwary of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) met Minister Alun Ffred Jones, whose portfolio includes sport, in the Welsh capital Cardiff. Mr Barwary said, “Our meeting was inspiring, productive and concrete. We discussed ways to improve sports administration, management and promotion, as well as how to cement our ties with Wales and other autonomous regions around the world.”
